Here's information from Rainbow Plaza about open application for the 2014 Fukuoka Korean Speech Contest.

The 12th Fukuoka Korean Speech Contest will be held on Sunday, November 30th, from 2 to 5 PM on the first floor of Fuku Fuku Plaza, located in Arato, in the Chuo Ward of Fukuoka. The contest is currently seeking 15 entrants to compete.

In order to compete, your residence, or your place of work or school must be within the Fukuoka city area. Those who have lived in Korea for periods of 1 year or longer, who have won the first place in past competitions of this event, or who have participated in the event 3 times are not eligible to participate.

Participants may choose to speak on a theme of their choice and will have between 4 minutes and 30 seconds to 5 minutes to present. After judgment, those who win will receive prizes and may even receive a round-trip ticket to South Korea!

Applications are being taken between Thursday, July 24th and Wednesday, August 27th. Those who wish to apply should contact the management office by phone at 092-471-0904 to receive an entry form. Once you have received the form, you should mail or fax it in.

The Fukuoka Korean Speech Contest Executive Committee is waiting for students of the Korean language to come out and participate!

And there is also an announcement about a Japanese Chat Salon…

Every first and third Thursday of the month, there is a “Japanese Chat Salon” being held in the Fukuoka City International Foundation large conference room on the 5th floor of the Fukuoka City Hall’s North Annex. It’s a place where foreigners studying Japanese in Fukuoka and local Japanese volunteers can get together in a relaxed atmosphere and talk.

Sessions start at 1:30 PM and run through 5 PM. The next session will take place on August 7th. Participants are free to come and go as they please during the session, and participation is free! Reservations are not necessary, however if you plan to attend in a group of 5 or more people please contact the Salon prior to your arrival.
