Every first and third Thursday of the month, there is a “Japanese Chat Salon” being held in the Fukuoka City International Foundation large conference room on the 5th floor of Fukuoka City Hall’s North Annex. It’s a place where foreign students studying Japanese in Fukuoka, including students of Japanese language schools, and local Japanese volunteers can get together in a relaxed atmosphere and talk. The next session is scheduled to take place on August 6th.

Sessions start at 1:30 PM and run through 5 PM. Participants are free to come and go as they please during the session, and participation is free! Reservations are not necessary, however if you plan to attend in a group of 5 or more people please contact the Fukuoka Foreign Student Support Association prior to your arrival.

Anyone who wants to use Japanese they have studied previously, or just talk with a native Japanese person, this is your chance!

The 13th Fukuoka Korean Speech Contest will be held on Sunday, November 29th, from 1 to 5 PM on the first floor of Fuku Fuku Plaza, located in Arato, in the Chuo Ward of Fukuoka. The contest is currently seeking 15 entrants to compete.

In order to compete, you must be a student of the Korean language who’s residence, or place of work or school, must be within the Fukuoka city area. Those who have lived in Korea for periods of 1 year or longer, who have won the first place in past competitions of this event, or who have participated in the event 3 times are not eligible to participate.

Participants may choose to speak on a theme of their choice and will have between 4 minutes and 30 seconds to 5 minutes to present. After judgment, those who give excellent speeches will be awarded prizes and may even receive special prizes such as a round-trip ticket to South Korea!

Applications are being taken from Tuesday, July 21st, through Friday, August 21st. Those who wish to apply please contact the management office by phone at 092-471-0904 to receive an entry form. Once you have received and completed the form, you should mail or fax it in.
