Fukuoka City is sending out coupons to those registered as residents of Fukuoka City as of April 20th of 2015, to receive free cancer screening.

The qualifying ages and conditions to use the coupons are as follows:

Women who were 20, 22, 27, 32 or 37 years of age as of last April 1st, and who have not had a city screening between 2009 and 2013, are eligible to receive cervical cancer screening.

Free breast cancer screening is available for women who were 40, 42, 47, 52, or 57 years of age as of last April 1st, and who have not received a city screening between 2009 and 2013.

Both men and women who were 40, 45, 50, 55, or 60 years of age as of last April 1st are eligible for colon cancer screening.

This service is available until Thursday, March 31st. If you have questions about how to receive the service or about medical facilities offering the service, please request assistance from the Health Section in your ward office, or search “Fukuokashi mu-ryou ku-pon”, in Japanese, in your web browser and check out the Fukuoka city homepage.

There is also a specific health check-up available for national healthcare recipients between the ages of 40 and 74. It's called "Yokadock". It's designed to prevent diseases often brought on by lifestyle choices, such as diabetes. It covers body measurement, blood pressure, urine and blood screening, EKGs, questions with a doctor and other things as well! And it's all for only 500 yen! Depending on the outcome of your exam, you may receive free guidance on making lifestyle changes for your health. Some locations also provide cancer screening with the Yokadock service. Fukuoka city would also like to let you know about the new National Health Insurance Cards.

New National Health Insurance Cards for those enrolled in the insurance will be mailed out in late March. The cards for all members of a household will be sent to the person registered as “Head of Household” with the city. The cards are valid until March 31st of the following year. If there are any outstanding fees, you may be issued a shorter term insurance card or a certificate of eligibility at your local ward office.

Those 70 through 74 years of age will receive their National Health Insurance Card for the elderly, or in Japanese, "Kourei Jukyusha-sho". Those turning 70 years old on or after April 2nd this year, will be mailed a health card which they may use starting from the 1st day of the month following their 70th birthday. If your birthday is on the first of the month, you may use the card from that day. There is no need to complete any processing application for this service.

If you wish to receive the card via simplified registered mail, please notify the officer at the Health Insurance and Pension Section of your local ward or branch office by February 18th.
