The Fukuoka International School, established in 1972, raises internationally-minded, capable students, supporting internationalization in Fukuoka, as well as for all parts of Kyushu.

There are currently around 220 students, with 26 different nationalities, between kindergarten and high school age, learning at the Fukuoka International School. And, when you include the teachers, there are about 30 different nationalities represented!

The Fukuoka International School will be holding its Spring Festival on Saturday, April 19th, to help bring the people of Fukuoka and the school closer together through exchange.

There will be a flea market where you can dig up treasures, places to try Indian curry and Korean cuisine, along with a smorgasbord of international dishes! Those who like sweets can enjoy hand-made cake and candy shops. There will be plenty to enjoy on stage as well, along with games for children and a street fair in the parking lot. There’s going to be a lot to see and do!

The Spring Fair will take place at the Fukuoka International School, located in Momochi-hama, in the Sawara Ward of Fukuoka City. There is no parking available. If you come via subway, get off at Fujisaki Station. It is approximately a 10 to 15 minute walk from there. If you come by bus, get off at the Momochi-hama 4 chome bus stop and walk for about 3 minutes and you will see the school. Again, the event is on Saturday, April 19th, from 10 AM in the morning until 2:30 PM in the afternoon.

And Fukuoka City also has an announcement about the Fukuoka Marathon 2014.

The marathon will take place on November 9th, and looks to become an event endeared by the people of Fukuoka. It starts in Tenjin and ends in Itoshima. The course lets participants enjoy the beauty of both the city and the countryside. There will be the full marathon, along with a 5 kilometer wheelchair race and a 5 kilometer “Fun Run”.

Currently, people registered as residents in Fukuoka City and Itoshima City are pre-registering. The deadline is April 14th, after which open application will begin on Tuesday, April 15th. Registration for both the wheelchair race and Fun Run begins on April 15th and is open until the 19th of May.

To qualify for participation in the marathon, other than high school students, you must be born on April 1st 1996 or before, and be able to complete the entire course within 6 hours and 45 minutes. For the wheelchair race, anyone of junior high school age or older who can complete the entire 5 kilometer course within 30 minutes in a racing wheelchair may join. Anyone of junior high school age or older who can complete the 5 kilometer course within 50 minutes qualifies for the Fun Run.

It costs 10,000 yen to participate in the full marathon. It is 3,000 yen to participate in the wheelchair race or Fun Run for those of high school age and older, and junior high school students may participate for 2,000 yen.
