The 12th Fukuoka Korean Speech Contest will be held on Sunday, November 30th, from 2 to 5 PM on the first floor of Fuku Fuku Plaza, located in Arato, in the Chuo Ward of Fukuoka. The contest is currently seeking 15 entrants to compete.

In order to compete, you must be a student of the Korean language who’s residence, or place of work or school, must be within the Fukuoka city area. Those who have lived in Korea for periods of 1 year or longer, who have won the first place in past competitions of this event, or who have participated in the event 3 times are not eligible to participate.

Participants may choose to speak on a theme of their choice and will have between 4 minutes and 30 seconds to 5 minutes to present. After judgment, those who give excellent speeches will be awarded prizes and may even receive special prizes such as a round-trip ticket to South Korea!

Applications are being taken through Wednesday, August 27th. Those who wish to apply should contact the management office by phone at 092-471-0904 to receive an entry form. Once you have received and completed the form, you should mail or fax it in.

The Fukuoka Korean Speech Contest Executive Committee is waiting for students of the Korean language to come out and participate!

At Rainbow Plaza, located on the 8th floor of the Tenjin IMS Building, free counseling regarding legal and personal issues is available to foreigners living in Fukuoka.

Legal consultations at Rainbow Plaza are available from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM on the first and third Saturdays of every month. On each day, up to four people can sign up for consultation. Each session runs for approximately 45 minutes including time for interpretation, if necessary. If you’ll need an interpreter, mention that when you make your reservation and Rainbow Plaza will make arrangements. The service is available by appointment only, and a lawyer from the Fukuoka Bar Association will offer the consultation.

Free personal counseling with a Japanese clinical psychologist is also available at Rainbow Plaza. Services are offered in English or Japanese, every Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Reservations are required, and the staff at Rainbow Plaza will arrange appointment times with the psychologist.

If you choose to use either of these services, you should know that confidentiality is guaranteed.
