It's the season for spring moving and that means it's also the time of year when disposal of furniture, household electronics and other "oversized garbage" increases. Today's message will take a look at how to dispose of oversized garbage.

First of all, you can make a reservation with the Oversized Garbage Disposal Call Center. They take reservations via phone and Internet. You will have to buy a disposal ticket from the center. Depending on the size and weight of the item of which you wish to dispose, the price of the ticket will vary. After you make your reservation, it will take approximately one week for the pick up to occur. Please place your garbage out for pick up no later than 8:30 AM on the scheduled morning in the designated location. The phone number for the Oversized Garbage Disposal Call Center is 092-731-1153. A second way to dispose of oversized garbage is to take it yourself directly to a processing facility. After making a reservation over the phone, or on the Internet, please take your item to the facility. There is a charge of ¥140 per every 10 kilograms of garbage. A third method of oversized garbage disposal is by requesting services from a city-licensed collector. Please use these types of services when extenuating circumstances apply. Please consult the Fukuoka City Commercial Environment Association. Their phone number is 092-741-5517. Please confirm the cost of disposal with them.

Many household electronics, like air conditioners, washing machines, and such, are required to be recycled in accordance with the Home Appliance Recycling Law. They may not be collected, or disposed of, by Fukuoka city. Either have old items picked up when receiving a newer model, or have the electronics store at which you originally purchased the item take care of the disposal for you. If neither option is available to you, please request service from your nearest BEST Denki store.

Personal computers and displays may not be collected, or disposed of, by Fukuoka city. They can be disposed of by the product's manufacturer. Or, search "renet japan" on the Internet and apply for pick up.

Also, please be aware that books, magazines, and miscellaneous paper products can be disposed of at recycle boxes and other collection stations.
