Here’s an announcement from Rainbow Plaza about the Home Visit Program for International Students. The Home Visit Program introduces Japanese families in Fukuoka interested in international exchange, to international students enrolled in colleges, junior colleges, or language schools in the Fukuoka metropolitan area, providing the opportunity for them to meet regularly and deepen mutual friendship and understanding.

Participants visit Japanese host families at their home and enjoy time together, such as conversation over meals. Each student-family pair is free to decide on where and how they would like to spend time together. In principle, the period of exchange between host families and foreign students is from September until November. There are openings for twenty participants. Interested students should contact Rainbow Plaza by phone no later than July 10th. A meeting date will be set, and participants are to bring their application, school ID, and Foreign Residency Card with them to the interview. Applications can be downloaded from the homepage and may be filled out during the interview meeting.

Also, participants will be introduced to their host families on Sunday, August 21st. All participants are expected to be present. If due to extenuating circumstances you are not able to participate in the introductory event, a separate, private date for formal introduction will be scheduled. And, Rainbow Plaza would also like to let you know that every first and third Thursday of the month, there is a Japanese Chat Salon being held in the Fukuoka City International Foundation large conference room on the 5th floor of Fukuoka City Hall’s North Annex. It’s a place where foreign students studying Japanese in Fukuoka, including students of Japanese language schools, and local Japanese volunteers can get together in a relaxed atmosphere and talk. The next session is on July 7th!

Sessions start at 1:30 PM and run through 5 PM. Participants are free to come and go as they please during the session, and participation is free! Reservations are not necessary, however if you plan to attend in a group of 5 or more people please contact the Fukuoka Foreign Student Support Association prior to your arrival. Anyone who wants to use Japanese they have studied previously, or just talk with a native Japanese person, this is your chance!
