In October, the Fukuoka City International Foundation will be merging the office currently located on the 5th floor of the Fukuoka City Hall North Annex, and Rainbow Plaza, currently found on the 8th floor of IMS Building. After the merge, they will be located at the Fukuoka International Exchange Hall in Tenyamachi in Hakata ward.

At present, in the Fukuoka International Exchange Hall, there is an “International Exchange Floor” where local inhabitants interact with foreign exchange students from the Fukuoka area, as well as a floor used as a dormitory for international students. These spaces are used by many foreigners and activity groups. In an effort to internationalize Fukuoka even further, these spaces will also house the office and Rainbow Plaza to enhance operational efficiency and to better facilitate dispersal of information, and turn the location into Fukuoka city’s focal point for international exchange.

It will continue to provide information and consultation foreigners need, such as helping with paperwork related to everyday life matters, medical care, tourism, events and more, as well as to offer local citizens a center for information on international exchange and language classes, among other things. The free, professional consultation services for foreigners that have been provided up to this point will still be available, however the location, times and content will partially change. And there is also an announcement regarding the Home Visit Program for International Students.

The Home Visit Program introduces Japanese families in Fukuoka interested in international exchange, to international students enrolled in colleges, junior colleges, or language schools in the Fukuoka metropolitan area, providing the opportunity for them to meet regularly and deepen mutual friendship and understanding.

Participants visit Japanese host families at their home and enjoy time together, such as conversation over meals. Each student-family pair is free to decide on where and how they would like to spend time together. In principle, the period of exchange between host families and foreign students is from November until January. There are openings for twenty participants. Interested students should contact Rainbow Plaza by phone no later than September 10th. A meeting date will be set, and participants are to bring their application, school ID, and Foreign Residency Card with them to the interview. Applications can be downloaded from the homepage and may be filled out during the interview meeting.

Also, participants will be introduced to their host families on Sunday, October 23rd. All participants are expected to be present. If due to extenuating circumstances you are not able to participate in the introductory event, a separate, private date for formal introduction will be scheduled.
