Drug abuse, whether it’s marijuana, narcotics or other drugs, causes emotional and physical ailments, as well as sudden death. Not only can drug abuse lead to addiction, but it can also lead to crime due to hallucinations and erratic behavior bought on by abuse. Drug abuse destroys people’s minds, hearts and lives. Have the courage to say no to drugs, even when they are offered to you through friendly words. Beware of invitations such as, “it’s good for dieting” or, “it will give you energy”. Stay strong. Say no.

Dried plant herbs mixed with processed chemicals to resemble narcotics or marijuana, called “Dangerous Drugs” in Japanese, can induce vomiting and confuse conscious thought. There have been cases where users were rushed to the hospital or died, as well as cases where users drive dangerously and have injured and killed themselves and/or others.

Illegal drugs affect not only your brain, they also can be highly addictive and your body may crave them even after just one dose. That addiction, and the aftereffects of drug use, are issues that can plague you for the rest of your life. Please, don’t use illegal drugs.

Fukuoka City is holding a drug abuse prevention event from noon until 4:30 PM on Sunday, September 7th, on the B2 level of the Tenjin IMS building. There will be stage demos, demonstrations with drug-sniffing dogs, panel exhibits that illustrate the scary reality of drug abuse, and other features at the event. Come get educated!

And, Fukuoka City would also like to let you know about it’s Fireworks Fantasia and Bon Dancing event that is happening next week on Saturday, August 30th.

In Obon season in Japan, towers are erected in the middle of large open spaces and people assemble in a circle around them to dance with music in memorial of the dead. It is called bon odori in Japanese.

In Hakata ward, the grand bon odori event will be held at Bayside Place HAKATA on Saturday, August 30th from 5 to 8 PM in the evening. Then, you can enjoy a laser and firework show set to music starting at 8 PM and going on until 8:20 PM.
