Here’s an announcement from Rainbow Plaza, located on the 8th floor of the IMS Building. It’s about the annual Home Visit Program for International Students. The Home Visit Program, started in 1989, introduces international students enrolled in colleges or language schools in the Fukuoka metropolitan area and Japanese families in Fukuoka interested in international exchange, providing the opportunity for them to meet regularly and deepen mutual understanding.

Participants visit Japanese host families at their home and enjoy time together, such as conversation over meals. Each student-family pair is free to decide on where and how they would like to spend time together. In principle, the period of exchange between host families and foreign students is from November of this year until March of next year. However, many have kept in touch with each other of their own accord, even after the home visit program’s conclusion.

Interested parties, should fill out an application form and send it, or bring it, to Rainbow Plaza by Friday, October 10th. Application forms are available at the international student section of colleges and other schools, as well as at Rainbow Plaza. The first time you will meet your host family will be Sunday, November 16th.

And Rainbow Plaza also has an announcement about the free counseling for legal and personal issues it offers for foreigners living in Fukuoka.

Legal consultations at Rainbow Plaza are available from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM on the first and third Saturdays of every month. On each day, up to four people can sign up for consultation. Each session runs for approximately 45 minutes including time for interpretation, if necessary. If you’ll need an interpreter, mention that when you make your reservation and Rainbow Plaza will make arrangements. The service is available by appointment only, and a lawyer from the Fukuoka Bar Association will offer the consultation.

Free personal counseling with a Japanese clinical psychologist is also available at Rainbow Plaza. Services are offered in English or Japanese, every Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Reservations are required, and the staff at Rainbow Plaza will arrange appointment times with the psychologist.

If you choose to use either of these services, you should know that confidentiality is guaranteed. Relax and feel at ease to take advantage of these complementary services.
