Fukuoka city has worked to take the lead over other cities in opening itself to Asia. There are currently over 3,000 foreign students studying in Fukuoka. In fact, the city’s number of students is ranked 2nd among cities designated by government ordinance, behind Kyoto city. Of the foreign students within Fukuoka city who are seeking to gain employment in Japan, 60% indicate they intend to do so in Fukuoka. Also, there are 24 general, regular, honorary and consulates, making Fukuoka 3rd among specially designated regions, after Osaka and Nagoya cities.

As such, with vast numbers of talented students coming to learn and large numbers of foreign public offices standing, Fukuoka city has an international flavor to it. However, even with lots of foreign students who like Fukuoka and look to start careers here after graduation, the fact is that every year large numbers of foreign students seek employment in other prefectures or countries. Fukuoka city believes it is important not only to have talented students come and promote a global workforce, but that it is equally important to build continuing connections with Fukuoka city and provide a global work stage by increasing employment opportunities in the city’s local industry, or by helping students start their own businesses in the city.

That’s why, this autumn, Fukuoka city is putting on the Global Community Fukuoka event. The event brings current and past foreign students, the city’s colleges, the economic world and the consulates present in Fukuoka, all together under one roof. It serves the joint purpose of promoting foreign student education and providing for its stability. Also, by increasing Fukuoka’s very own global connection, the city seeks to realize Fukuoka as a place for globally-minded talent to converge and succeed. It is a powerful kick-off to bringing the industrial, academic and research worlds together as a team.

There will be a keynote speech, and people from all over will engage in a panel discussion that looks at approaches for creating a global workforce, as well as at what “global personnel” are. In addition, there will be a stand-up buffet-style party where the participants at the event can get to know one another.

It takes place on Sunday, October 18th from 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the Hotel Okura Fukuoka. Reservations to participate are required. Please use the special application form to apply.
