The 13th Annual Japanese Speech Contest will be held on October 18th in Fukufuku Hall, located on the first floor of Fukufuku Plaza, in Arato in the Chuo Ward of Fukuoka City. Doors open at 9:30 AM and the contest begins at 10 AM. It is expected to conclude around 3:00 PM.

It is a two-tiered contest, with the morning part of the event being a competition between foreigners studying and learning Japanese at Japanese language schools in the Fukuoka metropolitan area. The second part is a contest for foreigners studying the Japanese language under the guidance of volunteer teachers in the Fukuoka metropolitan area. Participants in afternoon portion of the contest will be judged by the judges and audience voting.

Advanced reservations are not required, and there is no entrance fee! Bring your friends and come find out what everybody is talking about!

And Rainbow Plaza has one more announcement about the Homestay and Home Visit Program for International Students. The Homestay and Home Visit Program introduces international students enrolled in colleges, junior colleges or language schools in the Fukuoka metropolitan area and Japanese families in Fukuoka interested in international exchange, providing the opportunity for them to meet regularly and deepen mutual understanding.

Participants and Japanese host families enjoy time together, such as conversation over meals. Each student-family pair is free to decide on where and how they would like to spend time together. The period of exchange is from January through March of next year. There are spots for 20 participants. For further information, please visit the homepage.

Interested parties should call Rainbow Plaza by November 10th and set up an interview. Please bring your application, school ID, and Foreign Residency Card with you to the interview. Applications can be downloaded from the web site and may be filled out at the time of your interview.

Also, please be aware that participants and host families will have a meeting ceremony on Sunday, December 20th. Participating parties are expected to attend.
