The Fukuoka Prize celebrates its 29th year this year as an international prize to honor individuals and organizations that have made remarkable achievements in Asian academic research, art and culture. By the end of last year, it has honored 109 wonderful winners from 27 countries and regions.

It was Mr. Jia Zhangke, a movie director, who was chosen to receive this year's Grand Prize. Using local cities such as his hometown in Shanxi Province as settings, he made expert use of challenging cinematography script techniques, as well as stunningly portrayed the lives of people who survived in the midst of sudden social change. His works are highly regarded not only in China, but globally as well.

The Academic Prize was awarded to Prof. Akira Suehiro, the leading expert on Asian economic research in Japan. Based on research centering on Thailand economics, he clarified industrialization and the reality of the economic power of Asia as a whole, as well as played a leading role in the development of Asian studies in Japan. He also made a big contribution in organizing Asian studies and fostering young researchers.

Dr. Teejan Bai, the leading artist making narrative Pandavani singing based on the ancient Indian epic “Mahabharata” contemporary, was awarded the Arts and Culture Prize. Although she has suffered doubly in Indian society from prejudice, both as a woman and an indigenous person, she has kept singing with her rare artistic gift and strong will, as well as has given courage and encouragement to women and oppressed people.

The award ceremony, featuring all winners together under one roof, will be held from 6:30 pm on Thursday, September 20th, at the Symphony Hall on the 1st floor of ACROS Fukuoka. It is an unparalleled opportunity to witness the words of the winners live and to experience the diverse cultures of Asia. Anyone can attend and admission is free. Don’t miss this chance!

Public lectures will also be held by the winners. Jia Zhangke will screen his piece "Mountains May Depart" at United Cinema Canal City 13 from September 19 at 6:30 pm, and will talk on a wide range of topics related to his initial work in movie making and up through current works.

Prof. Akira Suehiro will speak at the Science Hall on the 6th Floor of the Fukuoka City Science Museum from 11 am on September 22 and introduce how to capture the current dynamism of Asia, as well as explain the trials and errors involved with his research.

Also at the Science Hall, Dr. Teejan Bai will give a performance of Pandavani, a type of narrative singing of the “Mahabharata", from 4 pm on September 22.

Those who wish to attend the award ceremony and public lectures are able to apply on the website at fukuoka-prize.org. Applications must be received by Monday, September 10. You can also apply via special postcards distributed at places such as the Information Plaza on the 1st floor of Fukuoka City Hall.

후쿠오카 아시아문화상은 아시아의 학술연구와 예술, 문화에 현저한 업적을 이룬 개인이나 단체를 표창하는 국제상으로 올해 29회째를 맞이합니다. 작년까지 27개국 및 지역으로부터 훌륭한 수상자를 109명 배출했습니다.

올해 대상 수상자는 영화감독인 지아 장커 씨입니다. 고향인 산시성을 비롯해 지방도시를 무대로 삼아 자유롭고 시도적인 영상화법을 구사하면서 급격한 사회변동 속을 강하게 살아가는 사람들의 모습을 정감있게 그려내 중국은 물론 세계적으로 높이 평가받고 있습니다.

학술연구상은 일본에 있어 아시아 경제연구의 일인자인 스에히로 아키라 씨가 수상했습니다. 태국경제연구를 기반으로 아시아 전체의 공업화와 경제실태를 해명하고 일본에서 아시아연구의 발전에 주도적인 역할을 하면서 아시아 연구의 조직화 및 젊은 연구자 육성에도 크게 공헌한 점을 높이 평가받았습니다.

예술 문화상 수상자는 고대 인도의 서사시 마하바라타를 토대로 한 판소리형 공연 ‘판다바니’를 현대에 전하는 일인자, 티잔 바이 씨입니다.
선주민이자 여성으로 인도사회에서 이중으로 차별을 받으면서도 천부적 재능과 강한 의지로 노래를 불러 여성들과 핍박받는 사람들에게 용기와 격려를 선사했습니다.

수상자가 한자리에 모이는 수상식은 9월20일 목요일 오후6시30분부터 아크로스 후쿠오카 1층 심포니홀에서 열립니다. 수상자의 이야기와 다채로운 아시아문화를 접할 수 있는 귀중한 기회입니다. 입장은 무료이며 누구나 참가할 수 있습니다. 응모해 주세요.

수상자의 시민포럼도 개최합니다.
지아 장커 씨는 9월19일 오후6시30분부터 유나이티드 시네마 캐널시티13에서 감독의 작품인 ‘산하 노스탈지아’를 상영하고, 영화제작의 원점에서부터 지금까지의 작품에 담은 메시지를 폭넓게 소개합니다.

9월22일 오전11시부터는 스에히로 아키라 씨를 후쿠오카시 과학관 6층 사이언스홀에 초빙해서, 약동하는 현재의 아시아를 어떻게 인식해야 좋은가,
본인의 연구 시행착오와 연대해 소개합니다.

사이언스홀에서는 9월22일 오후4시부터 티잔 바이 씨가 ‘마하바라타’의 판소리형 공연 ‘판다바니’를 선보입니다.

福冈亚洲文化奖是为在亚洲学术研究及艺术文化方面做出卓越贡献的个人及团体颁发的国际性奖项,今年是第29届。去年有来自２７个国家和地区的１０９人获奖。
获得今年头奖的是中国电影导演贾樟柯。他执导的电影背景多为地方城市，像他的老家山西，运用自由富于挑战性的手法创作出一个又一个在激烈动荡的社会中顽强生存奋斗的人物，受到了中国国内外高度赞扬。
获得学术文学奖的是日本第一位研究亚洲经济的末廣昭先生。围绕泰国经济来研究亚洲的工业化进程和经济现状、引领了日本研究亚洲的进程，同时还为研究亚洲的机构组成和新一代研究人员的培养做出了很大的贡献。
获得艺术・文化奖的是第一个将古印度叙事诗『マハーバーラタ』改编的说唱形式パンダワーニー推广开来的Teejan Bai（ティージャン・バーイー）。
她本人是原住民的女性，因而受到比常人更多的歧视，但是他凭借自身的天赋和意志百折不挠 为妇女和受歧视的人们带来了无限的勇气
获奖者全体出席的颁奖式，于９月２０日星期四下午６点半、地点アクロス福冈１楼交响乐厅。这是一次可以听到他们发言，感受到璀璨亚洲文化的难得的机会，而且入场免费请一定踊跃报名
另外获奖者还将做市民报告。贾樟柯的时间是９月１９日下午６点半 ユナイテッド・シネマ キャナルシティ13电影院、上演他导演的『山河故人』、之后导演亲自讲述创作动机和以往作品里蕴藏的感情内涵。
末廣昭的获奖报告是在９月２２日上午１１点，地点在福冈市科学馆６楼科学礼堂、蓬勃发展的当今的亚洲形势，如何去看待，去理解，结合本人的研究感受，将为我们做详细介绍。
