From Thursday February 28 th through Saturday March 30 th the exhibition entitled “The Miracle of M.C. Escher: Prints from The Israel Museum, Jerusalem” will be held at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, located at the Riverain Center Building in Shimokawabata-machi, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City.

This large exhibition will feature the works of the well-known 20th century printmaker Maurits Cornelis Escher who is known for his Trompe-l’oeil or Optical Illusion works.
Before the age of computers, printmaking these ingenious and creative ‘miracles’ have influenced a wide range of experts including mathematicians, architects and so on. They still continue to fascinate people even today.

In this exhibition, commemorating the 120th anniversary of his birth, around 150 selected items from the Israel Museum, Jerusalem boasting the world’s largest Escher collection will be on display for the first time in Japan.

In addition to his masterpieces including the work ‘Relativity’ where images that appear as if they could occur but in fact do not actually exist, as well as the 4-meter-wide piece entitled ‘Metamorphosis II’, some of his early works, woodblock prints and handwritten drawings will be displayed. Visitors can approach the mysteries of Escher’s creative process as they view these completely unique works.

Come experience the strange and fascinating world of this visual magician, M.C. Escher who creates an impossible world with different gravities existing in one picture.
Now as we have entered the digital age it is a valuable opportunity to acknowledge his great accomplishments with woodblock prints.

The hours of the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum are from 10 am to 8 pm but closed on Wednesdays.
Tickets are available for 1500 yen for general admission, 1000 yen for high school and university students and 500 yen for elementary and junior high school students. Advance tickets come at a 200 yen discount.
This discount is also available to foreign nationals who present their passport, foreign residency card, or some form of proof of nationality.

후쿠오카시 하카타구 시모카와바타마치, 리버레인 센터빌딩의
후쿠오카 아시아 미술관에서 2월 28일 목요일부터 3월 30일 토요일까지
‘탄생 120년 이스라엘 박물관 소장 미라클 에셔전’을 개최합니다.

‘눈속임 그림’으로 알려진 20세기의 대표적인 판화가,
모리츠 코르넬리스 에셔의 대형 전람회입니다.
컴퓨터가 존재하지 않던 시대 ‘판화’로 제작된 치밀하고 독창적이며 미라클한 작품은
수학자와 건축가 등 폭넓은 전문가나 크리에이터에게 영향을 주었으며, 지금도 많은 사람들을 매료시키고 있습니다.

탄생 120년을 기념해 개최하는 이번 전시회에서는 세계 최대급의 에셔 컬렉션을 자랑하는 이스라엘 박물관에서 엄선한 약 150점을 일본에서 처음 공개합니다.
실제로 있을 듯하면서도 현실에는 존재할 수 없는 ‘상대성’이나 폭 4미터의 대작
‘ 메타모포제Ⅱ’ 등의 대표작 이외에 초기 작품과 목판, 직필 드로잉 등을 전시,
에셔가 우일무이하다고 평가받는 작품을 창작하는 과정의 수수께끼에 다가갑니다.

하나의 그림 속에 중력이 다른 세계가 존재하는 등 ‘있을 수 없는 세계’를 묘사하는
시각의 마술사, 에셔의 신비로운 세계를 체험하시기 바랍니다.

후쿠오카 아시아 미술관의 개관시간은 오전 10시부터 오후 8시까지이며,
매주 수요일이 휴관일입니다.

입장권은 당일 일반 1500엔, 고등학생과 대학생 1000엔, 초등학생과 중학생은 500엔이며, 예매권은 각각 200엔 할인됩니다.
그리고 외국인은 여권이나 체류카드 등 국적을 증명할 수 있는 신분증을 제시하시면 200엔씩 할인받을 수 있습니다.

位于福冈市博多区下川端町、RIVERAIN（リバレイン）中心大厦里的福冈亚洲美术馆，2月28日星期四-3月30日星期六举办「诞辰120周年　以色列博物馆收藏　神奇埃舍尔展」。
这是以「错觉美学」闻名于世的20世纪伟大的版画家莫里茨·科内利斯·埃舍尔的大型作品展。
在没有计算机的那个时代，他创作的「版画」，其致密独特神奇的元素 给许多数学家建筑家多个领域人士带来了无限的灵感，今天他的作品依然是人们争相追逐效仿的楷模。为纪念诞辰120周年而举行的本次展览，从埃舍尔作品收藏最多的以色列博物馆精选了约150件，在日本首次公开展出。
